Inspired by the spring cover of Culture magazine (yes, I'm grasping for warm weather), I used goat cheese as the base for a whole tray of hors d'oeuvre.
With no cooking involved, these appetizers are not only quick to make, they look beautiful – the crisp white goat cheese against the colourful garnish. They're also mouthwatering – the creamy tang of goat cheese, the snap of crisp cracker and whatever sweet or savoury toppings you have on hand.

Crackers – choose various shapes, sizes and texture
Goat cheese
Fresh veg, pickled veg or pickled jalapeno
Fruit like kumquats, cactus fruit or pomegranate
Dark chocolate or candied pecans
Charcuterie
Method
Assembly is self-evident but I’d suggest using three different kind of crackers – choose various shapes, sizes and texture. Take care when spreading the goat cheese – it doesn’t have to be smooth but try keeping the edges of the crackers clean.
Then top with sliced fresh veg, pickled veg or pickled jalapeno. Try vibrant fruit like kumquats, cactus fruit or pomegranate. You can go sweet with a piece of dark chocolate or candied pecans and you can never go wrong adding a slice of local charcuterie.
