To face the season beautifully, makeup artist Sheri Stroh devised two easy-to-achieve looks – one above and one below – that rely on emphasizing key features (cheeks and eyes) while giving a little TLC to skin and hair. By paying attention to hydration with soothing, moisturizing products, you’re able to play with colour and product while ensuring longevity and great wear.

To start, skin is prepped for the elements with a spray toner and a skin oil. “Use a moisurizing foundation to even out the complexion,” she notes, “and a smooth, pigmented concealer.” For the gorgeous glow on our cover, Stroh used a cream blush first, let it set, then brushed a powder blush over top to add longevity. “It also makes it look like the colour is coming from within,” she adds.
Using this well-hydrated base as a start, a dramatic evening look is easily achieved. “Jewel tones are fantastic for the holidays, and a change from basic black,” Stroh says of the winged emerald eye she created. Neutralizing the look with a more subtle powder blush on the cheek and adding a monochromatic shade of lip colour (with gloss slicked over top) looks fresh, modern and festive.
