"Absolutely everybody needs this bench," says Toronto textile designer Bev Hisey. While Hisey's throw rugs and cushions usually veer bold and colourful, her most coveted item this season is decidedly more down to earth: the Adelaide Bench, crafted by local makers Coolican & Company out of solid white oak with a hand-rubbed black oil finish. "It is a beautifully clean and simple design that highlights the quality of the wood as well as the craftsmanship," says Hisey, who also admires the multifunctional nature of the piece. "I would like to use it in my front hallway. However, this bench could be used in myriad of ways. If I change my mind and want it upstairs at the foot of my bed, or by my upstairs hallway railing, I can do that too." $880 through coolicanandcompany.com
