DRAMA LESSON: Behind its quaint Victorian facade, this Toronto house by gh3 architects explodes into dramatic open spaces, nearly all white . The home’s centrepiece is a staircase clad in white Corian. Above it, a discreet clerestory window funnels in sunlight; the graphic wall cutouts, based on old wallpaper patterns discovered during renovations, add a decorative touch.

CENTRE STAGE: Architect Heather Dubbeldam and designer Kristi Morrison made this kitchen the literal and figurative heart of Julie Albert’s home in toronto. A honed limestone floor and St atuario-marble island give the room texture, while custom cabinets and shelves designed by Dubbeldam offer plenty of storage space and areas for showcasing family keepsakes.

TALL ORDER: The expansive double-height living room and kitchen in this ontario ski-country chalet were conceived by Toronto’s atelier kastelic buffey as a mostly neutral backdrop for darker tones and colourful accents. Designed by the studio, the limestone and cold-rolled steel hearth bridges the two rooms. Yellow fibreglass eames chairs and oak cabinetry lend warmth and interest to the kitchen.
