The Garden Jet Root Feeder.Gloria Nieto/The Globe and Mail

Worried about getting to or below the root systems when watering your plants? A new little gizmo, the Garden Jet Root Feeder, just may allay those fears. About 16 centimetres long, the feeder is designed for use with a wand or other watering device that has an on/off valve or trigger: You simply screw the feeder onto the device, turn on the water and then plunge the feeder into the ground near the plants you want to hydrate, controlling the water flow as required. Since each injection takes a few seconds, it's not a time saver, but it does conserve water. And you can water any type of plant, from roses to tomatoes to large potted ones, any hour of the day. Right now, this Canadian-made product is available for $12.99 only at Sheridan Nurseries outlets in Ontario (www.sheridannurseries.com), but other retailers are being courted; check www.gardenjet.ca for updates.
