The question
I think that my mulch is spreading fungal disease around the garden. What should I do?"
The answer
If you have mushrooms under trees and shrubs or yucky-looking stuff on their bark, your mulch could indeed be the culprit, as it provides a good place for fungi to grow. To prevent this, make sure that any mulch you buy is well on its way to composting. On the ground, keep it as dry as possible by watering trees and shrubs with buckets (which allow you to be more precise) rather than using sprinklers (which wet settings indiscriminately). And if it rains, stir the mulch up,aerating it in the process.
