The Action: Situated on a tree-lined street branching north of the Danforth, this East York house grabbed the attention of dozens of house hunters last November with a price tag strategically set under $640,000.

Thirty shoppers booked private tours and many more squeezed through two open houses in the days leading up to the offer date, which was met with multiple bids.

What They Got: This 87-year-old house embraces classic and contemporary characteristics, from vintage stained glass windows and decorative trims in the fireside living room and adjacent dining area to recently updated mechanics and kitchen with pot lights, stainless steel appliances and corked floors rather than the hardwood seen in three bedrooms upstairs.

A rear mudroom provides access to a lower-level den, bedroom and second four-piece bathroom, as well as a south-facing backyard with perennial gardens, garage and mutual driveway alongside the 22-by 108-foot lot.

The Agent's Take: "It's on a nice tree-lined street close to the Danforth," says agent Sandra Pate. "It wasn't your typical side-hall plan with the stairs up the side … the stairs actually came up from the dining room and curved around."

The pairing of old and new also suited buyers. "It had a nicely renovated kitchen and bathroom," Ms. Pate says. "[Plus] it had lots of nice, original woodwork, It was quite charming."
