CO-OP AGENTS Irene Kaushansky and Philip Brown, Keller Williams Advantage Realty

The Action: Clients of agent Philip Brown gravitated toward old-fashion homes, so he escorted them through a couple of viable options before they purchased this detached Edwardian on a side street east of Pape subway station.

What They Got: This 1940s brick structure was modernized without eradicating its traditional charm by updating the

galley kitchen, but preserving its wide porch, fireside living room with beamed ceilings and a formal dining room with wainscoting.

The main staircase leads up to three bedrooms, including one with cathedral ceilings, and a back stairwell provides entry to a recreation room in the basement and a back deck, patio and two-car laneway parking behind the private 16-by-123-foot lot.

The Agent's Take: "In that part of Riverdale, most homes have had the main floors totally gutted and opened up, so it's really rare to find one where they kept the original layout, hardwood, trims, baseboards and plaster elements," Mr. Brown explains.

"The location is great, literally a one-minute walk down to the Danforth, and it's just past the really commercialized strip of the Danforth east of Pape, so it's got that community feel with all the independently run shops and restaurants."
