Mix with the (model) jet set

Belleville, Ont.

Even though the tarmac will be filled with jets, there will be no celebrities, business moguls or limousines at the Mountain View airport this weekend. That's because t he jets are remote-controlled models, taking part in the Bay of Quinte Aeromodellers' yearly air show near Belleville. Looking at the tiny jet engines, it's hard to decide what's more impressive: the engineering, or the owners' dedication. Spectators are welcome to come and witness the thrills, and perhaps a few spills.

Cost: $5 admission.

When: Saturday, June 11, and Sunday, June 12.

Where: Near Belleville, about two hours east of Toronto by car.

How: Call 613-392-2089 or visit www.reach.net/~bqac.

Art-deco tour

Buffalo, N.Y.

Buffalo was an optimistic, growing city when its enormous Central Terminal was completed in 1929. Built with the belief that Buffalo's population would soon hit 1.5 million and that the railways would always be king, it became a monument to a future that would never be. Abandoned in 1979, the landmark suffered decades of decay, but is now undergoing a slow restoration. This Sunday, and on select days this summer, the Buffalo Central Terminal Preservation Coalition is running tours through the terminal's art-deco halls.

Cost: $15, reservations recommended.

When: Sunday, June 12, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. (and again on July 16, Aug. 21, Sept. 18 and Oct. 8).

Where: Buffalo, about two hours south of Toronto by car.

How: Call 716-849-4222 or visit http://www.buffalocentralterminal.org.
