Jonathan Silver was the first to admit that the decision to work as an actor in Montreal is no easy gig. It means inhabiting a small pond where the competition is fierce and jobs are few and far between.

Consequently, Silver, 25, often found himself confronted with large gaps in his schedule. So when New Year's rolled around, Silver devised a unique solution to relieve his boredom: He resolved to attend every Facebook event he got invited to for one year and document his experiences on a blog called Attendance Mandatory.

"It is an experiment to see what happens when I put my life almost totally in the hands of my social circle," Silver explains.

Only two rules exist. The first is that events he's invited to outside of Facebook take priority. Second, events must be within a two-hour drive of Montreal, unless the host covers the costs of travel and accommodation. In one of his most recent posts, Silver recounts attending a protest on Quebec language laws, a play adapted from the famous novel Oroonoko and a concert.

In a bit of an ironic twist, Silver's schedule is now so jam-packed that he confesses to feeling "batty" and sleep-deprived. To see how he's holding up, visit: www.jtsilver.com/attendancemandatory.
