Justin Gullo chows down on Mom’s wraps and Mickey D’s.Jennifer Roberts for The Globe and Mail

We asked two teens to write a week-long food diary to find out what they really eat. Justin Gullo shares his week-long diary here. Click here to read Ceilidh Millar's.

Justin Gullo is in Grade 10 at St. Elizabeth Catholic High School in Thornhill, Ont. He plays football, baseball and soccer, but his fave sport is hockey. He's a goalie for the AA Icedogs, and his nickname is JuJo (Justin Joseph, after his hero, CuJo). He loves construction tech; after high school, he plans to attend university to become a sports broadcaster or announcer. Justin turns 15 on Oct. 12.

Monday

I slept through my 6:45 a.m. alarm. Exhausted from my late-night hockey game (got home at 11:30), I quickly showered, brushed my teeth and grabbed two mini chocolate-chip muffins. I ran to the corner, hopped on my bus, plugged in my iPod, and downed my muffins.

School days are Day 1 or Day 2 and mealtimes are Lunch A, B or C. Today was Day 2 so I had Lunch B at 12:45, with a big group of friends in the cafeteria. I had a crispy chicken wrap that my mom made, and a tangerine. I packed a reusable water bottle to help save the environment!

Tuesday

I woke up to my alarm at 6:45 a.m., and hit the snooze button. Ahhhh, 10 more minutes. This morning I had two slices of brown toast with peanut butter and Nutella. Waiting for my bus, I ate my crunchy toast in the rain. Today I had Lunch A, from 11:05 to 11:45. I had thin slices of leftover steak with provolone cheese in a wrap, with a water bottle. The bus brought me home around 3. I was hungry so I made myself a cold cuts sandwich, and had it with milk while doing my homework.

Wednesday

My mom gave me money. I'm thinking "Finally, I get money; I've been waiting this entire week to get some money." I got on my bus with NO breakfast. As soon as I got to school I rushed to the cafeteria and bought a delicious BL - a BLT without the tomatoes. I'm not a huge fan of tomatoes unless they're in sauce. Today was Lunch B. I went to the mall with friends. I was trying to decide between McDonald's or Tiki Ming. I finally chose to go Chinese. There was so much I couldn't finish my noodles and sesame chicken.

Thursday

I had a hockey practice last night and didn't get to bed till midnight. I wanted to throw my alarm out the window this morning. I grabbed a granola bar and a water bottle and ran for the bus.

Yesterday I started my first job. I'm working in a dermatologist's office doing filing and computer work. To celebrate, my mom took me out for dinner, to a great Middle Eastern restaurant called Shoom Shoom. I had chicken shawarma, rice, pita and hummus. I saved half to take home, and that was my amazing lunch today. I ate it in the cafeteria with a lot of jealous friends watching!

After school and before my dentist appointment I had a root beer and a plain bagel.

Friday

After a 10-minute shower I raced downstairs and found $7 waiting for me. I got to buy lunch again! In my mind I was screaming with excitement. I was so excited I left without breakfast. Lunch was an easy choice, combo No. 4 from McDonalds. A McChicken, medium fries and a refreshing iced tea. I love Mickey D's but I try not to go there very often as I know it's probably not the most healthy thing to eat. It was a great lunch and a great way to end the week.
