Ceilidh Millar makes sure to get lots of fruits and vegetables, with the occasional trip to Tim Hortons.

We asked two teens to write a week-long food diary to find out what they really eat. Ceilidh Millar shares her week-long diary here. Click here to read Justin Gullo's.

Ceilidh Millar, 17, is in Grade 12 at New Westminster Secondary School in the Vancouver suburb. She is a reporter with Generation Why on Shaw Television in Vancouver and a member of the youth editorial board for Youthink Magazine. An avid volunteer, she received The Duke of Edinburgh Silver Award in 2009. She plans to study broadcast journalism next year.

Monday

I decided to indulge in a treat from Tim Hortons. You could call it a celebratory lunch because I found out I am playing Sandy in our school's production of Grease! I had an "Everything" bagel with herb and garlic cream cheese and a small iced cappuccino, probably not the best choices if I want to fit into those black leather pants. I try to have fruit or vegetables at every meal and today I packed all of my favourites: carrots, snow peas, kiwi and raspberries. I ate my lunch with friends in the Grade 11 and 12 hall, known as "the overpass."

Tuesday

My mother took my brother to the orthodontist, so I walked to school. And being a teenager who stays up till 2 a.m. doing homework, I slept in. I was in danger of being late for English (my favourite subject), but I stopped for a quick breakfast at Tim Hortons. Their egg and cheese breakfast sandwiches are my favourite. Did I mention Tim Hortons is right across from my school? I had lunch during my spare block because we had a meeting for Grease! My friend also had a study block, so being the Sushi Queen and King of our school, we went to Hi Dozo Sushi. I had kappa roll (cucumber and sesame seed), plain rice with teriyaki sauce and a Coke.

Wednesday

My father took me out for lunch to our favourite place in New Westminster. I have been going to Amelia's Restaurant since before I was born. I had a grilled cheese sandwich, fries, honey mustard sauce and a Coke. Again, not the healthiest of lunches (I usually eat very well). Stress from school definitely shows in my eating habits. I would have preferred a tuna salad sandwich on whole wheat, but I only ever eat half, so it would have been a waste.

Thursday

I packed a high-protein lunch - hard-boiled egg, whole wheat bread with Adams natural peanut butter, grapes, plain tuna fish, stone wheat crackers, kiwi, banana and apple juice - because I had a jam-packed day. Dance rehearsal for Grease! at lunch and script-reading after school. But I didn't have time to eat until after school (in the drama room). Being a vegetarian, I know how important it is to keep my iron levels up. I take a woman's multi-vitamin, omega 3 fish oil pill and a chocolate (YUM!) calcium chew. I also take a vitamin D as my Mom has multiple sclerosis and lack of vitamin D may be one cause.

Friday

I ordered some of my lunch from the cafeteria: chocolate milk, banana and pizza. Since school rules have changed to make everything healthy, they have been making the best whole wheat cheese pizza! I brought some stir fry from home with broccoli, carrots, green pepper, snow peas and udon noodles. I ate in the dance room watching the cast members of Grease! learn a dance. I am slightly lactose intolerant, but I decided to chance the chocolate milk because I need to have more calcium in my diet.
