The National Gallery of Canada is marking the 70th birthday of Newfoundland artist Christopher Pratt with an exhibition of his paintings from the past 20 years. On display until Jan. 8 are more than 60 landscapes, seascapes, interiors and figures, as well as some study drawings.

Many of the works show the familiar subjects that capture Pratt's imagination -- boats, clapboard walls, windows, blinds, stairs and waves, the gallery said in a news release.

Pratt works from his home on the bank of the Salmonier River south of St. John's.

The exhibition will travel from Ottawa to Halifax (Feb. 3 to May 7, 2006), St. John's (June 2 to Sept. 4) and Winnipeg (Oct. 4 to Jan. 7, 2007). CP
