In the last few years, jumpsuits have been embraced for their ease of wear – especially while travelling. But what if you have no intention of wearing one abroad and want to wear it to the office or cocktails around the corner instead?

Avoid pieces with loud patterns, plunging necklines and excessive frippery, for one. Instead, seek out jumpsuits that have an almost “blank canvas” quality. For example, at Max Mara’s spring 2018 show, the brand featured a gauzy, lilac-coloured number that mixed the classic appeal of a button-down blouse with the carefree vibe of a jumpsuit. A great pair of shoes and sunglasses were the only accents, and the effect was striking in its simplicity.

That said, the benefit of an uncomplicated jumpsuit is often the opportunity to add beautiful accessories, maximizing the potential to wear it for a multitude of occasions. Spanish brand Masscob’s cream-hued jumpsuit provides endless possibilities in the embellishment department, from lush printed scarves to bold jewellery. Yet it also looks smart as-is, thanks to the exaggerated sleeve detail.

Even more pared back is Banana Republic’s elegant piece; the only frill is found at the sleeve, making it a great choice for going from work to an evening out with a shoe and jewellery switch-out. Ted Baker’s sleeveless style is more playful, but not showy or juvenile. This piece also has the potential for seasonal longevity; wear a turtleneck underneath it or throw a blazer on over top come fall to play up its versatility.

Jumpsuits may seem limiting given their design and resort connotations, but the variety on offer now means you can find one that suits your day-to-day needs too. There’s an all-in-one out there for all of you.
