And you thought 72 days was short: Sinead ends marriage 18 days later Add to ...

Sinead O’Connor is probably pretty happy to see 2011 go.

It’s been a rough year for the Nothing Compares 2 U songstress, who publicly talked about her lack of a sex life in August, tweeted suicidal messages in September and most recently, filed for divorce from her fourth husband after 18 days of marriage.

O’Connor wedded boyfriend Barry Herridge on December 8 (her 45th birthday) in Las Vegas, dressed in a strapless pink gown and accompanied by a matching Cadillac. But before they could ride away into the sunset, the marriage was already in danger, said the Irish chanteuse.

“Within 3 hours of the ceremony being over the marriage was kyboshed (sic) by the behaviour of certain people in my husband's life,” wrote O’Connor on her blog.

She also admitted that there were other factors that started their journey as man and wife off on the wrong foot, including the fact that she took Herridge on a "wild ride" to find marijuana on their wedding night.

But, mainly, she blames the demise of her marriage on his family and friends.

“My husband was enormously wounded … by the attitude of those close to him toward our marriage,” she said. “I saw his life leave him because of how people close to him reacted. And I can't take anyone's life. And a woman wants to be a joy to her husband. So.. U love someone? Set them free.”

The brevity of their matrimony has set the Internet ablaze with shocked reactions and endless jokes.

On BettyConfidential.com, there’s a list of 10 things that lasted longer than O’Connor’s marriage, including Lindsay Lohan’s 2010 stint in rehab and Dr. Conard Murray’s trial. And of course, Kim Kardashian’s 72-day union with Kris Humphries.

But, fans of O’Connor are standing up to the “things that lasted longer than Sinead’s marriage…” jokes.

“This break-up seems to be a horse of a totally different color [from Kardashian’s] fraught with some deeper issues. That’s why, to me, Kim Kardashian’s blunder is far worse,” wrote Mack Rawden on Pop Blend. “I genuinely feel bad for O’Connor and Herridge.”
