Johnny Anglais is a stripper (he wears a Mountie costume in one act), porn actor and naked butler, providing as his website (which is cheesy but not explicit) explains, "a touch of class and a 'pinch of cheek' for your special occasion" (or, if you'd rather, a quiet night of nude vacuuming).
He's also Benedict Garrett, a British high-school sex-ed teacher.
Or at least, he was, until his students found a trailer for one of his pornos online, and some parents objected to his alternate identity.
Mr. Garrett fought his suspension, arguing moral hypocrisy: Why is it okay for a teacher to smoke and drink and even "overeat" but not earn a second salary in a legitimate – and legal – activity?Defending his position in the Guardian, he wrote, "There's nothing essentially wrong with legal, consenting adults watching other, legal, consenting adults having sex."
He lost his argument, sort of. A disciplinary board, the General Teaching Council, decided that being a lap-dancing stripper outside school hours – and advertising online for your students to see – was probably not the best side job for a teacher, and found him guilty of professional misconduct.
Mr. Garrett is, however, free to teach again, so long as Johnny Anglais takes a hiatus.
Not so open-minded were Quebec education officials this spring when they fired a school secretary after discovering she was also moonlighting as an X-rated actress. (A student recognized her in a movie and asked for an autograph.) The woman lost her job, she said, despite agreeing to give up her pornography career.
