What's the deal?

Experience an outdoor winter adventure with your baby.

Where's it at?

Tending to a new baby can be isolating, particularly in the winter. If you're fortunate enough to live in a part of Canada that actually has snow, escape the doldrums by snowshoeing – one of the most accessible winter sports. Tromping on a cushiony surface with new lightweight gear may be even easier than walking. If you've recently had a baby, it's a great, low-stress way to get back into shape while being outdoors and bonding with your little one and other moms. Most babies love it too. The cool air and rhythmic plodding puts them to sleep and they tend to snooze better at night after a day on the trails.

Head up Vancouver's Mount Seymour and book a Baby and Me guided snowshoe tour. The guides, who often bring their own babies along, will give you tips on carrying your child and will make sure you're both equipped for a 90-minute stroll in the mountains. They have numerous tricks, such as using scarves for baby head support and warmth, and repurposing wool socks as little arm warmers. The pace is relaxing and allows time for feeding en route. On a clear day, expect stunning city and ocean views and visits from hungry whiskey jacks (Grey jays) as you saunter through a snowy alpine forest.

Who's it for?

Those who would rather trek through snow on a mountain than push a stroller in the city. The 90-minute guided Baby and Me snowshoe tour runs every Thursday and costs $35, including equipment and snacks. mountseymour.com/snowshoevancouver
