Earl's Court One Bedroom Open-plan Apartments.

The question: We're planning a trip to Britain to visit family with our two teenage boys and are hoping to add a few days in London. In the past, we shared a hotel room, but now the boys are so big (and London is so expensive). We were thinking of renting a "flat" or hotel with a kitchenette. I know many places rent for a minimum of a week, but we have only three days.

TRAVEL CONCIERGE: So a one-bedroom B&B with a shared loo isn't cutting it these days? Lucky for you, there are a number of choices in London, many geared to the wallet-conscious traveller.

Think Apartments ( www.think-apartments.com) is a good budget option with four locations including near the London Bridge and Earl's Court, says Rebecca Smith from Visit London. Think has hundreds of apartments and offers nightly rates – as well as outfitted kitchens, Internet access and digital TV.

Another company, Base2Stay ( base2stay.com), also has nightly rates. Located in Kensington, it blends aspects of boutique hotels with serviced apartments. Smith also recommends SACO Serviced Apartments, which offers a range of options across London ( www.sacoapartments.com ).

Besides more room, these accommodations also offer one priceless amenity – the opportunity to live like a local.
