Kuri Bay on the Kimberley Coast in northwestern Australia is a one of the most exclusive and most reomote wilderness lodges.

The latest openings and events from around the world.

Luxury in the bush

Kimberley Coast – With only three rooms and a completely off-the-beaten path location in northwestern Australia, Kuri Bay is set to become one of the most exclusive wilderness lodges on the Kimberley Coast. An almost two-hour seaplane ride from Broome delivers guests to a pristine outpost that was once home to the country's oldest pearling company. Excursions to see hump-back whales, ancient cave art, and the horizontal waterfalls of Montgomery Reef trump any extraneous five-star frills (rooms don't have TVs, telephones or air conditioning). Meals feature freshly caught fish, pearl meat and fine Australian wines. At $4,799 (Aus.) a person for a four-night all-inclusive package, staying at this remote hideaway doesn't come cheaply. kuribay.com.au

Full of beans

Los Angeles – Serious coffee drinkers are sipping micro-roasted brews at Handsome Coffee Roasters' new downtown café. Situated in an industrial chic warehouse space in the Arts District, the hip coffee bar is co-owned by 2010 World Barista Champion Michael Phillips and java aficionados Tyler Wells and Chris Owens (formerly of Chicago's Intelligentsia Coffee) and features copper counters, an exposed wood ceiling and communal tables. Beans are prepared in small batches in a vintage roaster, which is on view from behind a glass partition. Don't bother ordering fancy frothy concoctions. Baristas churn out a decidedly minimalist menu of espresso, espresso with organic whole milk, and brewed coffee. handsomecoffee.com

All in the family

New York – If you're planning to conquer Manhattan with your brood, check into one of the Family Rooms at TRYP New York City Times Square South. The recently opened hotel – the first TRYP by Wyndham in the United States – has 23 over-sized rooms that accommodate up to eight people in a configuration of queen-size and bunk beds and a sleeper sofa. Other signature suite options include the Fitness Room (a room with its own stationary bike), and the soon-to-be-unveiled Samsung Experience Room stocked with a 55-inch flat-screen television with 3D glasses, surround sound, a popcorn machine and Nintendo Wii gaming system. tryphotels.com

For buyers and browsers

Las Vegas – Picasso, Miro and Rembrandt have found an unlikely home on the Vegas strip. Set inside the Forum Shops in Caesar's Palace, Martin Lawrence Galleries lays claim to more than $50-million (U.S.) in art, including Andy Warhol's Marilyns, Maos and Jaggers, and a fully intact Odyssey suite by Chagall. High-rolling art lovers who are committed to adding to their private collection can ponder pieces in a strategically lit VIP viewing room (make an appointment through Gallery Director Stacie Goulet). If your budget is more modest and you have time to kill between casino and show, pop in for a browse. The gallery doubles as a museum space and stays open until 11 p.m. on weekdays and midnight on weekends. martinlawrence.com
