Libya's tourism potential?
Libya is a dangerous place, according to Canada's Department of Foreign Affairs. It advises against all travel to specific areas of the country and against non-essential travel to the rest. But one-third of travel industry executives surveyed at the World Travel Market in London say the country has tourism potential at the moment. Another 56 per cent see it becoming a tourism hot spot in the future. They cited Libya's unspoiled coastline, Roman ruins and closeness to Europe as its chief assets.
Playboy goes to India (sort of)
You aren't allowed to buy a Playboy magazine in India, but starting next month you can romp and rollick at the country's first Playboy Club in Goa. A second club will open next year in Hyderabad. In keeping with social customs, however, the emphasis will be on glamour, not sex, and nudity will be a no-no. The local promoters say they are working with Playboy Enterprises on modified bunny costumes suitable for Indian sensibilities.
Sleep in the clouds
Dubai is certainly a reach-for-the-sky kind of place. The Persian Gulf emirate is already home to the world's tallest building, the 828-metre-high Burj Khalifa. Next month it will also lay claim to having the world's tallest dedicated hotel when the JW Marriott Marquis Dubai welcomes its first guests. Rising to a height of 355 metres, the hotel will boast 1,608 guest rooms, with half of them opening in the first phase. The Marriott is targeting luxury business travellers and meeting and convention delegates.
