Modern British comfort food at Canteen Covent Garden in London.

The latest openings and events from around the world.

London - British comfort food gets a modern day makeover, above, at Canteen Covent Garden. On the ground floor of the Lyceum Theatre in the heart of the West End, this all-day diner serves up such traditional dishes as shepherd's pie, eggs on toast, and sausages and mash, all made with ethically sourced ingredients. For a substantial meal, try the daily roast followed by bread pudding, or grab a quick pretheatre bite of fish finger sandwiches and sparkling rosé. The cool interiors, which are courtesy of British design studio Very Good & Proper include shiny tiles salvaged from the London Underground, retro booths, a zinc counter-top bar, and signature brass and oak Canteen Utility Chairs. canteen.co.uk

THE ART OF THE BLUES

Chicago - Conceptual artist Allen Ruppersberg transforms music into art work in No Time Left to Start Again/The B and D of R 'n' R, a special exhibit which runs from Sept. 21 to January 6 at The Art Institute of Chicago. Spanning the most prolific genres in 20th century American music, Ruppersberg physically melds together countless covers of vinyl records, concert photographs and musicians' obituaries. The laminated pieces are arranged as posters and boxes, and the entire collection is compiled in binders so that visitors can peruse them more closely, while a soundtrack of about 1,400 popular songs from blues and gospel to folk and rock 'n' roll plays in the background. artic.edu

MIAMI IN MOROCCO

Marrakesh - Delano Marrakech is scheduled to open this month. The newest hotel by the New York-based Morgans Hotel Group bears the name of its famed South Beach sister property, but the style and locale is decidedly more exotic. Designed by French architect Jacques Garcia, best known for his interiors at Hôtel Costes and Le Royal Monceau, the 71-room hotel blends the plush feel of a Moroccan riad (velvet, marble and a carved wooden ceiling) with the amenities of a modern Parisian bolthole (Juliette balconies, free WiFi and soaker tubs). Dine at Michelin-starred chef Michel Rostang's restaurant Bon R, shop at such lobby level boutiques as Louis Vuitton or Missoni and take a dip in the spa's subterranean mosaic pool. delanomarrakech.com

RESTOCK YOUR CLOSET

Mill Mercantile carries casual threads like button-down shirts by Gitman Bros, hand-crafted jeans by Raleigh Denim, and clogs by Maguba.
