One captivating image a day, the reason it was chosen and how you can shoot similar pictures.
Photo tip for Feb. 9: There are two layers that work to make this image interesting. The man walking under the scaffolding in the lower right and teh city seen through the fabric on the left. The softness of the left side of the frame is balanced off by the sharp details of the lower right. Try shooting different textures in your images and balancing them off each other.
Photo tip for Feb. 8: This image is full of layers. The bike in the foreground, dark section of ice in the middle of the frame and the bridge framing the skaters in the background all work together to make the image interesting. Try using layers to give your images depth.
Photo tip for Feb. 7: What really makes this image is the angle it was shot from. Composing the image with the arm in the lower left gives the feeling that it is the views arm. Also the vignetting helps focus the reader on the child. Try creatively cropping your images so that the scene continues on outside the frame.
Photo tip for Feb. 6: This is a great example of using shadows as your main subject. By shooting from a low angle the photographer is able to frame the shadow on the laundry that the person is washing.
Photo tip for Feb. 3: Thuan Le was in his condo on a snowy, rainy day in January. He captured this photo of lingering ice dolloped across the balcony net and it was selected as the best submission on the theme of "backyards." Why we chose it: This is a very interesting view of something in the photographer's backyard. He has focused on ice forming on the balcony net, giving the viewer a close-up look at something they probably would look right through on any given day.
