If you haven't already cast your ballot, you still have a decision ahead of you.

I haven't voted yet, and I can't tell you who to vote for, but I'll tell you who I'm going to choose.

I'm voting for the candidate who respects and appreciates people who drive cars, and can provide those people with wide-open roadways with as few impediments as possible, but who also champions transit and other modes of transportation. I'm voting for the candidate who can build not only the Broadway subway line, but one along 41st Avenue as well, linking to the Joyce-Collingwood SkyTrain station, and also build a sleek and modern surface light rail line through Yaletown and the West End. I'm voting for the candidate who can do all of this by the end of their term with no impact on local business or neighbourhoods, and no increase in gas taxes or property taxes.

I'm voting for the candidate who can bridge the gaps in the city's bicycle network and dramatically increase the number of separated bike lanes without hindering car drivers or commercial traffic. I'm voting for the candidate who can bring peace to the war between car drivers and cyclists so that they smile and wave their appreciation to each other again and again.

I'm voting for the candidate who will bring green, sustainable, well-paying jobs to Vancouver and make it the head-office capital of Canada, and who will at the same time lower the cost of living and put more money in taxpayers' pockets. I'm voting for the candidate who will eliminate poverty and bring us full employment, with every citizen engaged in meaningful, satisfying work.

I'm voting for the candidate who will increase the maximum wage.

I'm voting for the candidate who can bring an end to homelessness in this city. Not just sheltering homeless people, but giving them really nice apartments. You know, furnished, with their own kitchens and bathrooms. In neighbourhoods where the neighbours won't rally against them but embrace them, treat them with respect and perhaps even help them tastefully decorate their suites. And the apartments would cost no more than one-third of the renter's income, even if that renter happens to be on social assistance, which of course they wouldn't be because everyone will have well-paying jobs.

I'm voting for the candidate who will address this city's mental-health crisis so that people suffering with a mental illness are treated with the same urgency and compassion as people diagnosed with a life-threatening physical illness.

I'm voting for the candidate who will cut red tape, streamline the city's application process and at the same time make sure that all bylaws, building codes and safety standards are enforced. I'm voting for the candidate who will increase the number of community police officers, double the sworn strength of the police force and reduce spending on police.

I'm voting for the candidate who will make all community and recreation programs free, so that anyone may take swimming or skating lessons, play pickup basketball or hockey, or enjoy an advanced Zumba® class 24/7.

I'm voting for the candidate who can bridge the divide between dog owners and the dogless.

I'm voting for the candidate who can provide ample and affordable daycare that is flexible so parents who work odd hours or who work a part-time job may also take advantage. I'm voting for the candidate who will personally feed any child who is hungry.

I'm voting for the candidate who can write a country song that will make me cry, who can fix a dimmer switch, make a good omelette and recite long passages of Shakespeare from memory.

I'm voting for the candidate who can break a horse, gut a trout and who looks good in formal wear.

I'm voting for the candidate who is truthful, respectful, empathetic, clairvoyant and literally transparent.

I'm voting for the candidate who can sing karaoke and clean up on Jeopardy.

I'm voting for the candidate who can time-travel, understand the meaning of everything, and bring dead things back to life with the simple touch of a single glowing finger.

Put your vote where you will.

I know where mine is going.
