RCMP cordon off a crime scene using police tape.JOHN LEHMANN

A 39-year-old Kelowna, B.C., man has been charged with murdering a woman in Alberta five years ago.

The RCMP say Shawn Lee Wruck, formerly of Edmonton, was arrested Thursday and charged with first degree murder.

He's accused in the death of 29-year-old Shannon Maureen Collins, whose remains were found in June of 2008 in a wooded area in Strathcona County, east of Edmonton.

The discovery came after a resident of the area found his dog with a human skull in its jaws.

Collins was identified through dental records.

Police have said the family of Collins told them the victim lived a high-risk lifestyle.
