After 1,069 registered voters from the Musqueam Indian Band were left off the City of Vancouver's list of registered voters for the advance polling period, city staff are going door-to-door on Musqueam lands to deliver missing registration cards in person.

Chief elections officer Janice Mackenzie says the missing names were brought to her office's attention by a voter inquiry on the final day of advance voting.

All 1,069 people have now been added to the list and will receive their cards by November 15, she said.

Vancouver residents are allowed to vote during the advance polling period without registering in advance.

"Our records indicate that 35 people out of the 1,069 eligible in this area have registered and voted at an advance poll in the City election so far," Ms. Mackenzie said in an e-mail to all candidates running in the upcoming election.

She said her office has already taken steps to remedy the situation and is in contact with the chief of the Musqueam band. The office has provided candidates with a supplement to the list of registered voters in accordance with the Vancouver Charter, and the updated list is now posted at the city clerk's office.

"The City of Vancouver Election Office is also taking aggressive action today to ensure all Election information is made available immediately to electors in the Musqueam Lands," she told candidates.

The Vancouver Charter gives both voters and candidates the power to challenge the validity of an election. Ms. Mackenzie told reporters she believes the integrity of the election has remained intact.
