Death in house fire called homicide by Vancouver police Add to ...

Vancouver police have identified the body of a man found in a house fire on June 15, and have classified it as the city’s third homicide of the year.

The body of Edward Stobie Billy, 20, was found when Vancouver firefighters responded to a fire at 972 East 63 Ave. Police now say that fire was deliberately set, but haven’t released the cause of death.

On the afternoon Mr. Billy’s body was found in the house’s basement suite, the family who lived on the main level of the house was mourning the death of their grandmother earlier that day in a bus accident.

Constable Brian Montague said there is no known connection between the two deaths.

Const. Montague said Mr. Billy was known to police, but said there is no indication gang violence was involved and no arrests have been made. Police are asking for the public’s help in bringing forward any information about Mr. Billy or the fire.
