44-year-old Surrey resident and Global B.C. reporter, Ron Bencze, has been charged with 5 counts of sex related offences on an individual under the age of 16. The counts include one count of Sexual assault, two counts of Sexual Interference, and two counts of Invitation to Sexual Touching.
Mr. Bencze has been released from custody on a number of conditions including to abstain from any contact with his victim and any other young persons. He is scheduled for a court appearance on February 7th. The offences are alleged to have taken place over a number of years, from 2001 to 2011.
Mr. Bencze is a long-time journalist and has been a reporter with Global B.C. since 2004. According to Global's web site, he has been married since 1993 and has three children.
