The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has charged a 28-year-old Surrey, B.C., woman with the murder of her mother.

The body of 43-year-old Panagiota Zerbinos was found in a basement suite of a home in Surrey last Thursday.

On Saturday, the victim's daughter, Gloria, was arrested by Vancouver police officers.

IHIT's Corporal Adam MacIntosh says the homicide team is pleased to be announcing the arrest and second-degree murder charge only a few days into the investigation.

However, he says they also recognize the tragedy of a family losing a wife and mother and the daughter being charged with the murder.

Gloria Zerbinos remains in custody and will make a first court appearance on Tuesday.
