Remains that washed up on a Vancouver beach Thursday afternoon do not appear to be human.

Police were called to the Kitsilano beach after a citizen reported finding bones inside a boot.

But Barb McLintock with the B.C. Coroners Service says a preliminary examination suggests the remains are that of a marine mammal, possibly a seal. The Coroners Service hopes to confirm its findings Friday morning.

Ms. McLintock said the incident does not appear to be a hoax. She said the remains and boot were both likely pushed ashore because of a wind storm.
