Victim of fatal B.C. police shooting named

Vancouver police are negotiating with a man who entered a downtown hotel armed with a gun.


A 48-year-old Richmond man has been identified as the person shot to death on Nov. 8 during a standoff outside a New Westminster casino.

The B.C. Coroners Service confirms Mehrdad Bayrami was killed as police urged him to drop a gun and surrender during a lengthy police incident in the parking lot of the Starlight Casino.

Mr. Bayrami died Sunday of complications from an abdominal wound.

The Independent Investigations Office and the coroners service continue to investigate the case.
