Warm, windy weather has fanned the flames of 27 forest fires burning in Saskatchewan.

Scott Wasylenchuk, manager of the Saskatchewan forest fire centre, says conditions in most areas of the province are considered extreme.

He says the last few years of wet weather has actually allowed more "fire fuel" to grow across the province, creating possible dangerous conditions.

So far this year there have been 95 fires in Saskatchewan, down from 99 at this time last year.

That's also down when compared to the ten-year average of 111.

In North Battleford, fire officials are advising residents to exercise extreme caution due to high winds and very dry conditions in the area.

The North Battleford Fire Department has responded to a few grass and brush fires within the last couple of days.

Similar dry and windy conditions in Alberta saw 7,000 residents of Slave Lake evacuated on Sunday.

Officials say about a third of the town, including the government buildings and the town halls, have burned to the ground.
