The staff at a Leon's Furniture outlet in Halifax is getting sensitivity training after someone hung a small, black statue in a window, prompting complaints of racism.
The furniture store says it fired the two workers at its Dartmouth location after it conducted an investigation last month.
Leon's says the bronze statute was altered so that its eyes and mouth were whitened.
The Toronto-based firm says the incident was offensive.
The company also says it regrets what happened and apologizes to anyone who witnessed it.
The company did not return messages seeking comment.
