A man has been arrested after an armed standoff with Saskatoon police that lasted for almost seven hours.

Police say they got word late Thursday afternoon about a distressed person with a firearm in an apartment on the city's west side.

Initial attempts to get the 24-year-old man to give himself up failed, so an emergency response team and crisis negotiators were called to the scene.

The suspect eventually surrendered without incident around 12:30 a.m. and no one was hurt.

Police say a sawed-off shotgun was found when officers went through the apartment.

They also say the suspect was already facing arrest warrants for alleged breach of probation.
