Humane Society sues OSPCA Add to ...

The Toronto Humane Society has filed a $15-million lawsuit against the Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, the latest in a string of battles between the agencies.

In a notice filed this week, the THS accuses the OSPCA and its chief investigator, Kevin Strooband, of conducting a negligent investigation and defaming the THS, among other allegations.

The allegations have not been tested in court.

Frank Addario, one of the THS's lawyers, declined to elaborate on the court filing.

"Too much has already been played out publicly," he said.

OSPCA lawyer Brian Shiller said the agency will vigorously defend the suit.
