A Fredericton-area man was charged Monday in connection with a weekend assault that left New Brunswick Liberal MP Andy Scott cut and bruised.

Terry Curtis, 48, has elected trial by judge and jury on a charge of indictable assault and a charge of uttering threats of death or bodily harm. He is also charged with theft and mischief causing damage in connection with the same incident.

Mr. Curtis was remanded until he appears to enter pleas to the charges Friday.

A statement from the MP's office said that Mr. Scott has been advised by police not to make public comments about the matter.
