Police tape demarking a crime scene.JOHN LEHMANN

A murder charge has been laid after a woman was found dead in her home west of Barrie.

Police say the body of 54-year-old Victoria Doyle was found in her home on Kohl Street Thursday afternoon in the town of Collingwood.

The death was initially deemed suspicious but has since been upgraded to a homicide.

There's no word on cause of death.

Forty-nine-year-old Paul Faria, also of Collingwood, is charged with first-degree murder in Ms. Doyle's death.

Police are asking nearby residents to check their properties and garbage bins for anything that may be out of the ordinary or out of place as the investigation continues.
