Two men and a woman in possession of incendiary devices were arrested Monday as they were apparently set to firebomb a deli in northeast Montreal.

Police say they were tipped off on Sunday evening and watched as two men aged 50 and 53, and a 40-year-old woman, left a vehicle with incendiary material.

The suspects were then arrested as they tried to smash the window of the deli in order to allegedly launch Molotov cocktails inside.

Police cannot yet say if these arrests are tied to firebomb attacks on two pizza parlours in the same area on Nov. 3 or earlier attacks on Italian cafés.

The suspects are to appear in court Monday and will likely be charged with attempted arson, possession of incendiary material and conspiracy.

Police have theorized the café firebombings were part of a Mafia war or street gangs battling over turf.
