Ottawa man faces murder charges in Christmas Eve fire Add to ...

An Ottawa man is in custody after a deadly Christmas Eve fire in the city's south end.

The fire broke out in a second-floor apartment early yesterday morning and quickly spread through the highrise.

A 57-year-old woman died in the blaze, and more than a dozen residents - mostly seniors - were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.

In all, four people were sent to hospital, including one person who was reportedly in critical condition Friday afternoon.

Ali Issaky, 23, has been charged with second degree murder and arson with disregard for human life.

Ottawa police say Mr. Issaky will appear in court today.
