A woman is dead after being struck by a utility pole that was knocked over Monday evening in a collision between two vehicles north of Toronto.

York Regional police say the vehicles collided and then careened into a hydro pole that fell and hit two pedestrians in Vaughan, Ont.

They say the woman was in her 40s, but they have not released her name and the second pedestrian, a man, suffered serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

Police previously said the pedestrians were cyclists.

Insp. Stu Betts says three passengers in the vehicles were also taken to hospital with minor injuries.

He says the driver of one of the vehicles will be charged with dangerous driving causing death.
