A small plane reportedly carrying five passengers has crashed in northern Ontario and it's not immediately known if there are any survivors.

The Transportation Safety Board says the Keystone Air Service plane crashed near North Spirit Lake around 10 a.m. this morning.

The remote First Nations community is located about 400 kilometres north of Dryden, Ont.

A TSB spokesman would not confirm the number of passengers on board but said the plane could carry a maximum of eight people.

Published reports said five people were on the plane.

The safety board says the aircraft was flying from Winnipeg to North Spirit Lake.
