RCMP cordon off a crime scene using police tape.JOHN LEHMANN

The pilot of a small plane wasn't seriously hurt when the aircraft crashed in whiteout conditions in northern Manitoba.

Island Lake RCMP say an emergency locator transmitter was activated in the area near the Ontario boundary about 3 p.m. Wednesday.

An immediate response that included snowmobiles and a helicopter was organized.

A 1973 Cessna 207 operated out of Sandy Lake, Ont., was discovered within half an hour about three kilometres off a winter road.

The pilot, a 26-year-old man from Red Deer, Alta., was taken to the Garden Hill nursing station where he was treated for minor injuries.

There were no passengers on the aircraft.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada has been notified and police continue to investigate.
