A Quebec man charged with murdering three family members will undergo a psychiatric evaluation.

Pascal Morin appeared in court today in the Quebec town of Lac-Megantic.

The 35-year-old Mr. Morin was charged Saturday in the deaths of his 70-year-old mother and her two granddaughters, his nieces, aged eight and 11.

Police found their bodies in a home in St-Romain, a village of about 600 in Quebec's Eastern Townships.

Crown prosecutor Andre Campagna requested that Mr. Morin be given a psychiatric evaluation to determine his mental state at the time of the alleged incidents.

Mr. Morin is scheduled to return to court next week on the first-degree murder charges.
