A renowned farmers market near Waterloo that was levelled by a fire earlier this week has partially re-opened.

The outdoor portion of the St. Jacobs Market, as well as one of its buildings, was back in business Thursday, with more than 300 vendors expected to set up shop.

Premier Kathleen Wynne was on hand for the re-opening of the market, which she calls an important part of the community.

The year-round market's main building was gutted by a fire officials say began in its southeast corner early Monday morning.

Woolwich Township says the Ontario Fire Marshal's office has wrapped up its on-site investigation and has removed items of interest for further examination.

Fire Marshal spokesman Lonnie Schubert has said investigators have yet to identify what caused the fire but are looking at several "potential ignition sources."

The 2,200-square-metre main building housed some 60 vendors, with several hundred more setting up shop in other buildings or outside.
