How does the hard core 100-mile diet crowd make local food work, and how their experience can help the average consumer?

After all, even those dedicated to eating locally and organically admit that escaping the global food system can be tricky, and not always possible.

"It is a luxury to be able to say 'I'm not going to eat this because I have an ethical problem with it.' ... The system itself has to be changed, so that everyone is able to make those choices."
