A B.C. woman accused of having her mother's husband killed will take the witness box in her first-degree murder trial because she has nothing to hide, one of her lawyers told a jury yesterday in St. Catharines, Ont.
The defence began its opening statements with co-counsel Karen Unger telling jurors that Elizabeth Gatenby of Trail did not organize the murder of 72-year-old Bruce Firman.
In 2002, her son, Byron, 18, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit murder. The other teen, now 17, who can't be named, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in 2004. CP
