Twin girls just shy of their third birthday have died in a fire that destroyed a mobile home in rural northern Saskatchewan.

RCMP in Hudson Bay say the older-style trailer was engulfed in flames when firefighters and EMS workers from nearby Hudson Bay arrived on Monday.

Three adults, one of them a visibly distraught woman, were outside.

Police say the woman was suffering injuries from the fire, which took several hours to put out.

The remains of the two children were found inside.

Names are not being released at this time.

The cause of the fire is not known.
