A 41-year-old woman from London is facing second-degree murder charges in the stabbing death of a young man early Saturday.

London police charged Jodie Hoogstra yesterday.

Family and friends have identified the slain man as Matthew Owen, 19, who grew up metres from where police say a disturbance led to a double stabbing. Mr. Owen's friend and neighbour, Tyler, whose last name has not yet been confirmed, is the other stabbing victim, neighbours say. Police said that he second man was being treated in hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Mr. Owen died of a wound to the neck.

"He was a good kid with a big heart," said Mr. Owen's stepfather Mike Cornish, who along with other family members raced to the parking lot where the two teens lay bleeding.

"We held him."

Police were called early Saturday morning to the parking lot of a plaza, which houses a convenience store, tattoo parlour and family restaurant.

The investigation quickly led officers to a townhouse behind the plaza where they found what police are calling "evidence of a disturbance."

The sliding glass door in the rear of that unit was smashed, with blood covering several backyard items.
