Young brother and sister drown in Port Burwell swimming incident Add to ...

Two siblings have died in a swimming incident in Port Burwell, the Ontario Provincial Police said.

The 7-year-old boy and 10-year-old girl, both from Glen Meyer Norfolk county were airlifted to a hospital in London, where they were pronounced dead, Constable Aaron McPhail said.

“They were in the water swimming on a hot summer day but we’re still not sure what happened,” he said. “We’re not sure about the parents and if they were supervising.”

A third youth was rescued, but police were not able to confirm the age or if the youth is related to the siblings.

Police say the main beach in Port Burwell, roughly 70 kilometers south of London, was extremely busy around 4 p.m. Friday at the time of the incident.
