At the end of the first week of campaigning, Tim Hudak's Progressive Conservative party has a slight lead over the competition for the next Ontario government, according to an Ipsos Reid poll.

The Tories would take 37 per cent of the decided votes, the poll taken May 6 to 9 found, while Kathleen Wynne's Liberals would get 31 per cent of the vote. Andrea Horwath's NDP would remain the third party with 28 per cent of the vote.

The results were little changed from polls conducted in April, with the Tory vote holding steady while the Liberals lost one point and NDP gained one.

With more than a month to go until election day, 16 per cent of Ontarians say they're undecided, the poll found. The online poll is considered accurate within 3.9 percentage points.

The writ dropped on Wednesday, marking the start of the election period, but parties have been in campaign mode for a week since Ms. Horwath's announcement her party would not support the governing Liberals' budget.
