an ideal leader

EKOS pollster Frank Graves has built the perfect politician. In an article for The Mark, Mr. Graves relates what Canadians have told him would make the ideal prime minister as the country's 150th birthday approaches:

» A woman; over half the population are female.

» Or perhaps, a visible minority Canadian given the country's growing diversity.

» Under 41 years of age.

» Character: courage, honesty, sensitivity, authenticity and able to "stir the soul as well as a Tim Hortons coffee," Mr. Graves says.

» Issues of interest: climate change, energy, human rights and internationalism (that's what Gen Xers and Gen Yers are concerned about and they will be firmly in charge by then).

» Issues of less interest: ethics, crime, security and health care.

» Canada's digital generation prefers "collegiality" rather than "formal rationality" as a way of problem solving.
